Premier South Poll Breeder
-
At our ranch, we’re passionate about regenerative cattle farming and we’ve chosen South Poll cattle as the cornerstone of our operation. For us, it’s about more than just raising cattle; it’s about restoring the land, creating a sustainable environment, and producing the best cattle in the most natural way possible.
Our Ranch Operation:
We’re nestled in a landscape that’s as diverse as it is beautiful—rolling pastures, patches of woodland, and winding streams and springs. Our goal is to enhance and protect this environment, ensuring it thrives for generations to come. Regenerative farming is at the heart of what we do. We believe in working with nature, not against it.
Why South Poll Cattle?
We’ve chosen South Poll cattle because they’re perfectly suited to our regenerative practices and our geographic location. These cattle are heat-tolerant, gentle, and thrive on grass alone, which is essential for the type of rotational grazing we practice. South Polls are incredibly efficient foragers, which means they’re great at turning our diverse pastures into healthy calves. At East Creek Cattle, we only use full blood or pureblood cattle to ensure the highest genetic quality.
-
We use a rotational grazing system that mimics the natural movement of wild herds. By grazing our cattle frequently across different, controlled sections of pasture, we give the land time to rest and regenerate. This not only improves soil health but also increases the diversity and resilience of our pastures.
-
One of our main goals is to improve soil health. We regularly test our soil to monitor its organic matter and nutrient levels. Healthy soil is the foundation of everything we do—it helps us sequester carbon, improve water retention, and grow better forage for the cattle. We’ve strategically placed water sources and fencing to ensure that the cattle’s impact is spread evenly across the land, which helps prevent erosion and enhances water infiltration.
-
We’re committed to promoting biodiversity on our ranch. By halting long standing practices of plowing and cyclical use of herbicides and industrial nitrogen, our land has rebounded. Numerous native grasses have naturally repopulated and our soil biome could not be healthier. This not only benefits our cattle but also supports a wide range of wildlife, from beneficial insects to birds and other animals. We’ve even designated certain areas as wildlife corridors to ensure that local wildlife can coexist with our cattle in harmony.
-
The welfare of our cattle is a top priority. We use low-stress handling techniques to keep our South Polls calm and healthy. They live a life that’s as natural as possible, grazing on fresh pasture, breathing clean air, and drinking clean water. We adamantly oppose using growth hormones. Antibiotics and vaccine usage is kept to a minimum level. We focus on a selective breeding program to enhance traits such as calving ease, docile personalities, and steady adolescence weight gain, ensuring our herd is well-suited to our environment and practices.
